The high street label, owned by the H&M group, usually takes part in the festivities and last year offered 25% off selected styles, including knitwear, outerwear, dresses, jeans and much more. As we gear up for 2024’s big November sale, I’m sharing everything you need to know including when it kicks off, details on how long the sale will last and our top tips for making the most out of the big event.

With so many brands now taking part, Black Friday can feel super overwhelming when it rolls around but there are a few ways to make it less stressful. Planning ahead is key to avoiding overspending on things you don’t really want, as well as making the most of discounts on the pieces you do want. Before taking the plunge and making a huge purchase, take a step back and question whether you really need it or whether you’ll actually use it. If so, it could be a really good time to make a purchase.

Last year COS took part in both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, offering more accessible prices to its many fans for a limited time only. So how much can you expect to save this year, can you return sale items if you change your mind and what should you buy? Keep reading for everything you need to know.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an annual shopping event, which sees nearly all fashion and beauty brands offering generous discounts. Often dubbed the biggest shopping day of the year, it’s so huge because it’s held roughly a month before Christmas and offers shoppers the opportunity to get more for their money in the run-up to the festive season.

It’s held on the last Friday of November every year, and Cyber Monday is held the following week. This is when all the discounts are on offer online only, but as we become a nation of predominantly online shoppers, it’s usually just a continuation of Black Friday. The offers come to an end when Cyber Monday finishes.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday happens on the last Friday of November, which is November 29th in 2024. Cyber Monday then happens the following Monday, which is December 2nd this year. Often the discounts continue throughout the weekend, which is sometimes called Cyber weekend.

Is COS taking part in Black Friday? Our prediction

We can’t say for certain, but judging by past years, it’s very likely that COS will take part in Black Friday 2024. Last year, they offered 25% off select styles. Let’s hope for the same generosity this year.

Will it take part in Cyber Monday too?

As Black Friday grows in popularity, the sales last for longer every year. COS tends to combine both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, meaning that you can make the most of the sale throughout the weekend. Sometimes Black Friday offers a taster of bigger discounts yet to come, so it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled on the COS website. But in short, yes – we’re expecting them to take part in Cyber Monday too.

When will the sale end?

Like many brands, the fun stops at 23.59 on Monday. This is when many of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales finish.

Our top tips for shopping the Cos Black Friday sale

If you want to make the most of the sale, I recommend making a wish list ahead of time so you’re less tempted to overspend during Black Friday. Identify wardrobe gaps and the pieces you really love that won’t go out of style within a year. Ensure these items go with what you already own (at least 5 outfits). This will help you narrow down the pieces that you really want ahead of the shopping day.

Buying gifts? Ask your friends and family what they want for Christmas so you don’t buy something they won’t really enjoy. Add all of the items to a wish list on the COS website, and when Black Friday rolls around, you won’t be tempted to buy other pieces that grab your attention because of the hefty discounts.

As consumers are becoming savvier to the impact of overconsumption on our environment and the individuals working to produce garments, many brands have decided to boycott Black Friday this year.

We’re expecting this to include brands Monki, Next and Arket, all of which opted out of Black Friday in 2020.

While we don’t condone overspending, we do want fashion to be accessible to those on a low budget, as well as those who struggle to shop sustainably due to size constraints.

We love fashion and the freedom of self-expression it brings and understand you’re going to want to shop the sales. We encourage you to be mindful of your spending and avoid buying items you’re probably going to discard of in a year’s time.

Shop smarter, not harder this Black Friday. Ensure you’re not overspending by setting yourself a budget beforehand and creating a wish list of items you actually need rather than want – including Christmas gifts for others – if you are going to spend.
