If you’ve ever found yourself browsing H&M, saving an item, and discovering it’s sold out by the time you go to buy it a few days later, you’ll be wondering if H&M ever restock? Some of the brand’s most popular items sell out quickly, so it’s not always easy to get your hands on them – especially when it comes to their designer collaborations. If you’re someone who likes to take time over purchasing decisions, it can be stressful.

Luckily the brand does restock from time to time. As with most online stores, they get plenty of returns, which often means you’re able to find pieces being restocked regularly. Their return window is 30 days, so it can take over a month to see the sold out pieces being restocked. Does H&M restock sold out items?

While there is no official restock policy, H&M does in fact restock sold out items, especially when it comes to the items that sell out really quickly. These are almost always restocked. My top tip would be to set a notification for the item you are looking for so you will receive an email alert when it has come back in stock. You can even set to notify you about a particular size. How handy!

When does H&M restock?

While H&M doesn’t have an official restock policy, it is widely known that most stores receive new shipments at 6am every day. Each morning the restock begins up to three hours before the store opens to give time to replenish the store and make sure that all new arrivals are back on the floor. This means that if you’re looking for a previously out-of-stock item, the best chance you have of finding it is by shopping bright and early in the morning.

By this logic we would assume online restocks would follow suit and we’ve often seen the H&M website down for maintenance late at night which is when online restocks are said to be done. Don’t forget to sign up for the ‘notify me’ option on the website – once you provide an email address, you will be contacted once the item is restocked online.

As mentioned, you have 30 days to return your online H&M order from the date you received your parcel. Once your return makes it back to the warehouse, it takes up to 4 business days for the return to be processed. This means that you could find the items you want being restocked up to 34 days after you first looked too. It’s definitely worth keeping tabs on an item you really want as this could happen at any time.

How can I check in-store availability online?

We all know the pain of finding the perfect outfit online, heading to your local store to try it on and then realising it’s already sold out. The great news is that there’s an easy way to find out if that outfit you have been eyeing is in stock at and even if the size you’re looking for is there.

To do this you have have two options; either use the ‘Find in store’ feature or the ‘In Store Mode’.

Find in-store feature

Simply open the H&M app on your smartphone or visit hm.com on any device to find what you’re looking for. There will be a ‘find in-store’ button, which is located below the colour swatch on the right. If the item is sold out in store or only available online, the find in-store button will be greyed out.

Once you select ‘find in-store’ you can search which store has the item available. You can search a specific area, city or store to find the branch closest to you. Details on what sizes are available in each store are made available, as well as the opening hours and address of each store.

In-store mode

You can also activate ‘in-store mode’, which means that you essentially shop all the available items that are in stock in the particular H&M store you have selected.

Once you have the H&M app open on your smartphone, tap the More menu (IOS) or the top left menu (Android) and activate ‘in-store mode. Next select the store you wish to access. You can use the map view to find nearby stores or you can use the search tool to find a specific store. And voila, you’re using the in-store shopping tool!

You can search the in-store assortment and check which of your favourite marked items that are available in store.

When does the H&M sale start?

The H&M sale is on now, with up to 50% off across every category. As with many fast fashion brands, H&M offers discounts nearly all year round online. Right now I can see a linen shirt dress slashed down to £23 from £44.99 and a 2-pack cotton T-shirts for only £5.

H&M also participates in seasonal promotions during winter and summer, as well as major sale events like Black Friday (the last Friday of November), Cyber Monday (the following Monday), and Boxing Day.

What is the next H&M collaboration?

While the collaboration with Rokh was a huge hit back in April, H&M hasn’t announced their next designer partner yet. They are known for surprising us with exciting collaborations, so stay tuned! In the past, they’ve teamed up with fashion powerhouses like Mugler, Moschino, Versace, Alexander Wang and Rabanne.

When H&M shows an item as ‘coming soon’ it means the product in question is not yet available to buy, but will be soon. It’s basically a preview of what’s to come.
