Are you shopping at Monki, but don’t know what your size is? I’m here to help! I’ve been shopping at Monki for years, so it’s fair to say I know a thing or two about their sizing. I know it can be stressful when you order from somewhere new for the first time and don’t know what size to get, but we all have to start somewhere. If you’ve found yourself here, you’re clearly doing your research too.

That said, I do recommend going in-store and trying clothes on in person if you’d rather not buy anything in a couple of sizes. Klarna is great for that, but I also know many people who avoid it like the plague. So with that in mind, I’m sharing everything I know from personal experience and I’ve also done some research of my own to find out how others find Monki’s sizing. Does Monki’s sizing come up small?

Monki’s clothes are pretty true to size. A few pieces run big, so you might want to size down but you’ll be able to tell which I’m referring to by looking at the model images online. Many of their pieces are supposed to look oversized, so it’s up to you whether you want to achieve the desired look or to size down for a tighter fit.

Monki offers sizes XXS-XXL (EUR 32–52) and they follow standard European sizes. Their styles come in a variety of fits: oversized, regular, and tight. Before checking the sizes, read the product descriptions to learn the type of fit. In Monki terms, tight-fitting styles sit close to the body, and oversized items were designed to look baggy.

If you’re tall, some reviewers online have advised that you might find some of their skirts and dresses come up a little bit short, but I’m 5″7 and this has never been an issue for me.

As always, we recommend trying items on if possible. This is the best way to get a sense of how a brand’s pieces will fit you going forward.

Monki vs H&M

In my own experience, Monki is pretty true to size compared to its sister brand H&M. As so many of their items are meant to be baggy, I’ve never found anything to be too tight but H&M is known for their strange sizing. That is, until they were forced to change their sizing in 2018 after receiving so many complaints! Many said the sizes were much smaller than was stated, which is never fun to experience. Monki is way more generous with its sizing.

Do Monki coats run big or small?

Coats are the perfect layering pieces, but if you’re planning on wearing chunky jumpers underneath, you’ll need to make sure the fit is right. Many of Monki’s coats are oversized, so they have a lot of room for a knit underneath. You can also opt for a size down if you want something more tight-fitting. I used to own a teddy coat from the brand and I got a size up to ensure I could wear chunky knits and sweaters underneath. I always do this, so it’s not that Monki’s ran particularly small.

Do Monki jeans come up small?

Monki jeans follow standard jeans sizing, eg. sizes 28, 29, 30. This refers to the waist and is pretty consistent across all brands, which makes finding your regular size easy once you know. For reference, I’m a size 10 and get a 28 in jeans. Monki’s size guide will help you work out which size you are in jeans if you don’t already know.

But in terms of how Monki’s jeans fit, they’re true to size. You can opt for your regular size happily, and like all denim, you might need to wear your jeans a little bit for them to stretch out. I tend to pick jeans that feel a little bit too tight because I know they’ll stretch and feel huge soon anyway.

Many of the denim trends of 2024 also favour looser fits too, so you’ll find that they’re baggier on the legs anyway. Some of their most popular styles include wide leg, flare leg and loose jeans.

What size do Monki models wear?

Monki don’t specify which sizes their models wear on each item, but this isn’t a very helpful way of gauging how something will look on you anyway. I used to be a stylist for a high street brand, shooting over 30 looks a day that later went on the brand’s website and 99% of the time we pinned the clothes to look better fitting than they actually were.

It converts the sizing from various countries to make it easier to understand when you’re ordering from them.They also have a fit guide to help you visualise how each fit would look like on you, which covers regular, oversized and tight-fitting items.

I recommend looking at the specific measurements provided in the product descriptions. Once you know your size, you’ll be able to shop the same size going forward.
