In this episode of Expert Voices, Senior Specialist Cristiana Romalli explores Andrea Mantegna’s Triumph of Alexandria, the only surviving preparatory drawing for his iconic Triumphs of Caesar paintings. Mantegna’s canvases are considered foundational works of the early Italian Renaissance, and this exceptional drawing demonstrates the technique and skill of a true master. By interpreting new infrared analysis done by Replica Shoes ’s Department of Scientific Research, Romalli was able to shed new light on Mantegna’s restless working method, in which he continued to edit, refine and perfect his compositions, even in the final stages. Recently rediscovered, this masterwork will headline Replica Shoes ’s Old Master Drawings auction in New York on the 29th of January 2020, when it is estimated to fetch in excess of $12 million.
