The Lyrical Language of Joan Miró’s Dream Paintings

28 JULY 2020 | LONDON

In the 1920s, Joan Miró invented a lyrical abstract language, opening up a path for generations of artists to follow. In this video, discover the inspiration for the beautiful blue background of this ‘dream painting’ and learn how Miró’s friendship with fellow artist Alexander Calder helped transform his art. ‘Peinture (Femme au chapeau rouge)’ has been unseen for decades and is the first work of this importance to appear at auction since ‘Peinture (Étoile bleue)' set a record for the artist in 2012. It is also the highest value lot of our upcoming ‘Rembrandt to Richter’ Evening Sale (28 July | London). Spanning over 500 years of art history, this auction will draw the Old Masters together with 19thcentury, Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary artists.
