Munch’s First Colour Print Stars in Ground-Breaking Vollard Portfolio

LONDON | 17 SEPTEMBER

Edvard Munch’s first ever colour lithograph is at the heart of this complete, ground-breaking multi-artist album by one of the most important art dealers and publishers of the 20th century. Friend and patron of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, Ambroise Vollard was largely responsible for the validation of lithography as an art form. In this episode of Expert Voices, Vollard expert Dr. Jonathan Pascoe Pratt explains how ‘Les Peintres-Graveurs’ was issued in Paris in 1896, comprising 22 prints by the likes of Pierre Bonnard,Odilon Redon, Auguste Renoir and Edouard Vuillard. Purchased in 1920s Paris by the current owner’s family, the album has never before been exhibited publicly and will appear for auction for the first t.mes as a highlight of our upcoming Prints and Multiples sale (17 September | London).
