A Rare Jess Portrait and a Shocking Cady Noland: Stories Behind the Byron Meyer Collection

New York | 19 November 2025

T he Byron R. Meyer Collection is a remarkable testament to one of the Bay Area’s most discerning collectors and devoted patrons of the arts. Led by the rare and important 1966 Translation #16 by Jess and Cady Noland’s striking Cowboy Eating with Shoulder Hole from 1990, the collection also includes exceptional works by Richard Diebenkorn, Elizabeth Peyton, George Condo, Robert Ryman and Robert Arneson, among others. Spanning generations and movements, the collection reflects Meyer’s deep engagement with the creative pulse of his time. Beginning with the modernist precision of Diebenkorn’s Albuquerque #20 and continuing with a new generation, the collection reveals Meyer’s unwavering eye for quality and his ability to identify artists whose practice defined and expanded the language of postwar and contemporary art.

Works from the collection of Byron R. Meyer will appear in the Contemporay Evening Auction and Contemporary Day Auction in New York on 18-19 November 2025.
