  Josef Frank, 'Flora' Bureau, model no. 2131, designed circa 1950-1951, executed 1952.
  Estimate £20,000–30,000.

  The 'Flora' bureau is a perfect example of Josef Frank’s highly personal style, which incorporates elements of Viennese elegance and Swedish functionalism. For this project Frank used hand-coloured botanical paper prints from Carl Lindman’s book Bilder ur Nordens Flora, which he then delicately applied onto the mahogany front of the piece. Contrast between the delicate floral patterns and heavy wooden form instils the cabinet with light, playful and organic sense.

  Gio Ponti, Bench from the Palazzo Liviano, University of Padova, 1939.
  Estimate £50,000–70,000.

  Gio Ponti is regarded as one of the main references of Italian design of the 20th century. During the 1930s and 1940s he received many commissions for educational spaces, including the Palazzo Liviano, at the University of Padua. Elegant, modern, well equipped and comfortable, the building also included a wide range of commissioned unique furniture, including this bench , which was integrated with a view to optimising the learning space.
