  Euan Uglow, Striding Figure. Estimate £200,000-300,000.

  "My wife Pauline and I knew Euan well and are both keen fans (and owners!) of his work. Euan studied under William Coldstream at the Slade and then in turn Pauline studied under Euan there. We’re lucky enough to have several of Euan’s paintings and I love this particular work for the way he uses colour to show the texture of her skin and how he can paint the distribution of weight – look at the pressure she’s placing on her right foot. Amazing!"

  Frank Auerbach, David Landau Seated II. Estimate £200,000 — 300,000.

  "I’m so fascinated by Auerbach’s method of painting – huge quantities of thick oils, layered so deep on the canvas which he’d then often scrape off at the end of the day and start again until he was satisfied. I love all the stories about his paintings taking days and days to dry properly. Auerbach is another colour master and I love him for that too."

  "Alfred Wallis, part-time fisherman, part-time painter, I love the fact that he did both things! He took up painting aged 67 with no training, his work has this amazing childlike quality. That’s something I always try to maintain is to be childlike in curiosity, but hopefully not childish!"

  "Another friend of myself and my wife, Pauline, Craigie was a very special man. He also studied under Coldstream at Slade and was a good pal of Euan Uglow’s. I have many wonderful memories of spending time with Craigie and am lucky enough to own several pieces of his work that remind me of him. His paintings have such unique and beautiful simplicity and naivety."
