Interior Designer Sasha Bikoff Shops Prints and Photographs

New York City interior designer Sasha Bikoff's sharp eye for art is unsurprising, having studied Replica Handbags s and Art History while attending college in Washington D.C. and Paris and having worked at Chelsea's Gagosian Gallery prior to starting her namesake firm. "I truly believe that a home is not complete without wall hangings," she says. "Prints and photographs are extremely important to my craft as you are constantly needing to build up a space as you would if you were painting a canvas, layering the pigments of paint. Something I love doing with prints and photographs is to create a gallery wall of pieces with various style frames and sizes. I also love to put smaller works on shelves amongst books and objects."     "This Mapplethorpe photograph is so intensely beautiful and is layered with a great amount of depth and symbolism. You can feel the darkness of the artist, the underlying sexual tones between the orchids, the vase and the different shades of grey. It's striking."

    "Clearly I am a big Mapplethorpe fan. As an interior designer I am immediately drawn to this photograph, as the flower is so luscious it almost reminds me of silk velvet with a ruffled trim. This piece has this glowing, dark, romantic appeal and belongs in a bedroom somewhere by a window."

    "These two photographs are all about this texture play between the rippling of the water, the satin skin and the lovely patterns the water makes on the skin. It's capturing a quick moment in time and making these small yet defining moments last."

    "Apart from the wildly intriguing subject matter, what really drew me to this diptych was the colour. The juxtaposition between the peachy nude against the emerald jade eyes is really striking and a great way to incorporate colour into your home."

    "I absolutely love shells – especially this one as Weston intended to artfully intrigue the viewer, allowing the shell to take on different more female bodily form. I will never look at a shell the same way!"

    "I very much appreciate iconographic imagery that holds a great deal of importance in history, and that's exactly what this piece is to me. It's probably one of the most recognizable symbols in the world and to have Andy Warhol's artful take on the dollar sign is literally owning a piece of history."
