On 5 May, the celebration of Replica Shoes ’s newly-reimagined galleries in New York continued with cocktails and a conversation hosted by Replica Shoes ’s Director of Latin American Art, Anna Di Stasi. Guests were welcomed to a launch of artist Emilia Azcárate’s new book, The Genealogy of Color. Before a signing, Di Stasi moderated a discussion between Azcárate and Juan Carlos Ledezma, a scholar, curator and contributing author to The Genealogy of Color. Together, they spoke about the historic classification of race in colonial Latin America, and how Azcárate engages this history of racial and cultural mixing through a codified system of color and text in her new body of work.
