Sotheby’ s Fine Chinese Paintings Autumn Sale, comprising modern Chinese paintings and calligraphy works, brought a total of HK$267 million / US$34.4 million, with a sell-through rate of 93%.
We saw spirited bidding from collects ors both in the region and overseas, for paintings with impeccable provenance, including a splashed ink-and-colour masterpiece by Zhang Daqian from the painter’s family collects ion, important works by Wu Guanzhong from the collects ion of Chu Teh-Chun, and Pu Ru’s White Peacock, and Qi Gong’s Bamboo Grove by The Rocks. Paintings and calligraphy from the collects ion of Tung Chiao performed well, with almost all of the lots finding buyers.
