S otheby’s offers a carefully curated selection of rugs, carpets and textiles included within the biannual Arts of the Islamic World & India sales held each Spring and Autumn. These sales are a focal point for collects ors, institutions and connoisseurs globally who continue to be fascinated by the very best classical carpets of the fifteenth to eighteenth century, as well as the rich decorative traditions of the nineteenth century onwards. 

Sotheby’s has been entrusted with some of the most important carpets that have appeared at auction. In 2013, during the sale of Important Carpets from the William A. Clark collects ion, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Sotheby’s set the world record for any carpet and any Islamic work of art sold at auction with the renowned Clark Sickle-Leaf carpet, which achieved $33.7million. In 2020, Replica Shoes ’s subsequently set the world record for any Mamluk carpet sold at auction with the Hirth Mamluk carpet which achieved £1.8million. 

Alongside the biannual Islamic Week sales, rugs and carpets are also included within Classic Design, Royal & Noble, and important single owner sales globally and throughout the year, showcasing how carpets transform interior spaces.
