CHAMPION, DESIGNED & TAILORED FOR THE CHICAGO BULLS SHORTS, SIZE 38

MESH

1993

Presented in this lot is a pair of red away shorts worn by Scottie Pippen during the 1993 NBA Finals, when the Chicago Bulls took on the Phoenix Suns. Notably these shorts were worn in 3 Finals games, including the championship clinching game of the 1993 NBA Finals, on June 20, 1993.

After completing back-to-back championships, the Chicago Bulls entered the 1993 NBA Finals with history in reach. Standing in their way were the Phoenix Suns, led by league MVP Charles Barkley, whose physical style and pace posed a real challenge. The Finals opened in Chicago with the Bulls intent on setting the tone early.

These shorts were worn in Game 1, which immediately revealed the series’ intensity. Phoenix pushed Chicago to the limit, forcing overtime in a back-and-forth contest that tested both teams’ resolve. Scottie Pippen was central to the Bulls’ response, guarding Barkley, pushing the tempo, and contributing across the stat sheet. In overtime, Chicago steadied itself and pulled away, securing a 100–92 win that established control while underscoring how narrow the margins would be. Pippen finished the game with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

Pippen wore these shorts again in Game 2, a game that followed a familiar pattern. Phoenix continued to apply pressure, and Chicago responded with balance and control. While Michael Jordan’s scoring drew much of the attention, it was Pippen who shaped the rhythm of the game. He defended multiple positions, initiated the offense, and helped the Bulls close strong in the fourth quarter. Logging a game-high 42 minutes, Pippen recorded a triple-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists, along with 2 steals and 2 blocks. His performance anchored Chicago’s 111–108 win, giving the Bulls a 2–0 series lead while making clear the Suns were far from finished.

The series seesawed back and forth, with the Suns and Bulls trading wins in Chicago, forcing Chicago to finish the job on the road. That set the stage for Game 6, where Pippen wore the shorts once again. With the Bulls chasing their first three-peat, the game tightened late as Phoenix threatened to extend the series. Pippen delivered a steady, composed performance, contributing on both ends while staying attached to Charles Barkley throughout. In the final seconds, it was John Paxson’s three-pointer—created by Pippen’s hard drive to the basket—that sealed a 99–98 victory and secured Chicago’s third straight championship. Pippen finished with a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, along with 5 assists and a game-high 4 steals.

Across Games 1, 2, and 6, Pippen’s impact extended beyond the box score. He anchored the Bulls’ defense by taking on the league MVP in Barkley and helped steady the team in the series’ most demanding moments. Together, these games reflect the balance that defined the 1993 Bulls and mark the closing chapter of the NBA’s first modern three-peat.
