CARDBOARD BOX SEALED IN PLEXI

1991

Featured in this lot is a Wheaties cereal box commemorating the Chicago Bulls’ 1991 NBA Championship, sealed in plexiglass and signed by Scottie Pippen. For decades, Wheaties has been closely associated with athletic achievement, with its boxes serving as markers of moments when sports figures crossed into the broader public consciousness. Championship teams and defining athletes have long appeared on the packaging, making each box a snapshot of its time.

The 1990–91 season marked a turning point for both the Chicago Bulls and the NBA. After several years of playoff disappointment, Chicago broke through with a five-game Finals victory over the Magic Johnson–led Los Angeles Lakers. The win signaled a changing of eras, as the Bulls established themselves as the league’s new standard and began a run that would define the decade.

Scottie Pippen’s growth into a leading figure was central to that breakthrough. During the Finals, he averaged 20.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1 block per game, capped by a decisive Game 5 performance of 32 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block. His play confirmed that the Bulls had become a complete team built around multiple stars.

This item comes directly from the Collection of Scottie Pippen. The box is also accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signature.
