Bapsy Sidhwa (1938 – 2024) was a celebrated Pakistani novelist whose work left a profound impact on South Asian literature and film. Born in Karachi and raised in Lahore, Sidhwa received her BA from Kinnaird College for Women University in Lahore in 1957. Among her celebrated works is Cracking India (1991), a child's-eye view of the Partition of 1947 which was later adapted into the award-winning film Earth (1998) directed by Deepa Mehta. Sidhwa’s contributions to the literary field earned her many awards including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s third-highest civilian honor, and she was inducted in the Zoroastrian Hall of Fame in 2000.
