Padmasambhava, “Lotus born”, is seated on a lotus arising from the cosmic ocean, with his two consorts at either side on flowers supported by tendrils emerging from the main stem. His Indian consort Mandarava holding a water pot appears on Padmasambhava’s right, and his Tibetan consort Yeshe Tsogyal holding a skull cup on his left. Compare the style of a fifteenth century Tibetan gilt copper alloy figure of Padmasambhava sold in these rooms, 15th March 2017, lot 216.
