The Hermès In The Pocket celebrates a horological history that spans over a century. The Maison's watchmaking tradition dates back to 1912 when Jacqueline Hermès, still a child at the time, inadvertently sparked the creation of the brand's first wristwatch.
Dissatisfied with the way she had to carry her small pocket watch, Jacqueline, ever the keen young equestrian, asked her father to create something that would allow her to wear her watch on her wrist while riding. Drawing upon the harness and saddlery savoir faire of the Maison, her father created a leather strap that not only holds the watch, but is also molded to its shape to ensure optimal protection during exercise. The result is a porte-oignon or 'onion bag' pocket watch holder that can be strapped onto the wrist.
More than a hundred years after this ingenious design, La Montre Hermès revived the iconic model paying tribute to the original model gifted to Jacqueline Hermès. Reimagined in pink gold and released in an edition of 178 examples, the Reference IP1.770 In The Pocket is paired with the famous porte-oignon strap handcrafted in alligator by the petites mains of Hermès workshops.
