The Cartier Santos was born of the friendship between two pioneers: Brazilian aeronaut Alberto Santos-Dumont and French jeweler Louis Cartier. Santos-Dumont asked Cartier in 1904 to design a watch that could be worn on the wrist to ease the challenge of checking a pocket watch mid-flight. Their collaboration solved a practical problem faced by many pilots while flying and became one of the earliest wristwatches made for men.
The Santos Reference 2961 'Carrée' is a vintage automatic wristwatch produced from the late 1970s to the early 1990s known for its classic, t.mes less design. This neo-vintage t.mes piece is considered a classic among collects ors and enthusiasts because it blends Cartier’s heritage styling with everyday wearability — elegant enough for formal wear but robust and distinctive enough for regular use.
