Distilled in 1969, bottled expressly for James Ransbottom by J. P. Van Winkle & Son, Lawrenceburg, KY, strip label worn and slightly torn

The 'Very Special Stock' bottles were essentially a private label series, created by Julian Van Winkle III so that retailers could order personalized bottles for their customers, be it private individuals or companies, directly from him. They were originally bottled just with back labels, with customers in liquor stores filling in request forms which would then be sent back to Van Winkle to fulfill the orders with the personalized front labels. There are a number of different vintages and age statements in this series, with the earliest known vintage to be 1967, bottled in 1978. The glass bottle and labels changed slightly over time. The Great American Whiskey Collection includes various 'Very Special Stock' bottlings for a single private customer, James Ramsbottom, who at some point in the early 90s appeared to then go by the name Jim.
