This bottle represents the pinnacle of the Van Winkle era at Stitzel-Weller, as it represents everything the company’s president, Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle, wanted in a bourbon: a wheated mashbill, bottled at 100 proof, and aged for a decade. Unfortunately, Van Winkle would never would have seen this particular bottle – he retired in 1964 and died in February 1965.
