Old Fitzgerald was the flagship brand of Stitzel-Weller Distillery, led by Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle. The whiskey came in a variety of ages. While under his management, 'Pappy' Van Winkle refused to bottle Old Fitzgerald at anything less than the domestic requirement of 100 proof set out by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 made it illegal to label any spirit bonded if it was aged past 8 years. This was changed in 1958. This 12 year old bottling is one of the first releases at this age and proof, becoming a catalyst for many others to follow.
