Acquired by the family of the present owner

This was painted just after Vaughan returned from a trip to Morocco with Patrick Woodcock. It represents a group of villagers washing at a public well. A combination of oil pastel and wax crayon, as well as gouache and Indian ink. Seated and standing figures are depicted here, and Vaughan has adapted his use and application of materials to express the vigour of the figures' actions as well as the subject matter.
