The young Rama and his brother Lakshmana with Visvamitra approaching sages performing a fire ritual in Mithila. King Visvamitra renounced his kingdom and became a sage known as Rajarshi Visvamitra.

The sage Vashishta was one of the Manasaputras -the mind-born sons of Brahma. He lived in a forest hermitage and was a teacher of Rama and Lakshmana. He composed Mandala seven of the Rigveda.
