Produced for an exceptionally short period between 1941 and 1943, the Patek Philippe reference 1506 ranks among the rarest and most distinctive chronograph wristwatches ever made by the manufacture. Fewer than 25 examples are believed to have been produced, of which only eight have surfaced to date (four in yellow gold and four in pink gold). The present watch, in yellow gold, represents the eighth known specimen.

The reference 1506 is especially notable for its striking case design. Measuring 36 mm in diameter, it was, alongside the reference 530, one of the largest chronographs Patek Philippe produced at the time. Its most distinctive feature lies in the architecture of the case, defined by slim, elongated, multi-faceted lugs that extend seamlessly from the band. The stepped bezel and domed case back lend the watch a bold presence, while preserving an elegant and harmonious profile.

This example, fresh to the market and consigned by the family of the original owner, features an engraved case back bearing the name “Jean Bruno,” perhaps marking a gift of deep sentimental value. While the case has been polished during its lifetime, the hallmarks remain clearly visible. Like the reference 1518 and early 2499s, the inside case back is stamped with a “9” within a key, indicating that this case was manufactured by the esteemed casemaker Emile Vichet.

Signed with the long “Patek Philippe & Co.” signature, the dial is rooted in Bauhaus principles, balancing elegance and clarity. It offers rich information through its registers and tachymeter scale while remaining perfectly legible and uncluttered. At its heart beats the calibre 13-130 CC, a chronograph movement renowned for its reliability and precision.

As one of just a handful known, the present 1506 captures a fleeting moment in Patek Philippe’s history and represents a truly unique opportunity for collectors to acquire a wristwatch of the utmost rarity and importance.
