The ‘Lange 1’ was among the first pieces released by A. Lange & Söhne following Walter Lange’s resurrection of the iconic German manufacturer in the early 1990s. It quickly became an icon in the world of fine watchmaking, a product of innovation and inspired by years of tradition. With features such as the off-centered dial configuration and the novel outsize date give freshness to the traditional features of the German timepieces such as the three-quarter plate and the screwed gold chatons. While its display is seemingly disordered, the placement of the dial is the result of precise calculations and complex rules of symmetry, relying on the mathematics of the golden ratio and perfectly balanced.

But when it comes to watchmaking, A. Lange & Söhne is not only about appearance, and the present reference is a wonderful example of the intricacies and great care given to the process of making the movement. With its characteristic bridges in German silver - a nickel, copper and zinc alloy - the Lange 1 is powered by the manual-winding calibre  901.0 with 53 jewels and more than 350 components which run A. Lange & Söhne’s signature digital date display window and a power reserve indicator.

With its platinum case and silver dial, the present lot is a great example of the variant of the Lange 1 commonly nicknamed “the Stealth '' for its discrete and homogenous array of colours and its fame and desirability have resulted in the release of different iterations by the German manufacturer. The present lot thus presents a great opportunity to acquire an early example of this iconic model for any horological enthusiast.
