Patek Philippe launched its first model featuring the renowned calibre 12-600 AT self-winding movement in 1953. The reference 2526 achieved international acclaim and can be found in all precious metals, with or without bracelets, and in various dial configurations. The present lot is crafted in yellow gold and features a striking black enamel dial.

Enamel dials are still produced sparingly due to their delicacy, high cost, and complexity in manufacturing. However, Patek Philippe opted for enamel on the reference 2526 for its durability; enamel dials are resistant to oxidation and moisture damage that can affect metal dial finishes. This particular lot boasts a first series dial, identifiable by the small dimples in the enamel surface visible beneath each baton hour marker and the long applied baton index at 6 o'clock. These early dials have dimples because the hour markers are set into the dial with pins, whereas later dials feature hour markers glued onto the solid enamel surface.

The present watch features a 1st series dial. The indexes at 6 o'clock is larger then on any other series dial and the indexes throughout appear to be sunk into the enamel. The dial itself is intact and is free of any imperfections. The case is well preserved with a crisp hallmark at 6 o'clock between the lug and a second one underneath the lug. The watch still retains with its original PP crown.

Among the various iterations, black dial 2526 models are the most sought after due to the exceptional rarity and unmatched appeal of the iconic black dial.
