First introduced in 2011, the Saxonia Thin remains the thinnest timepiece ever created by A. Lange & Söhne. Its design embodies pure simplicity and balance, offering only the essential indication of hours and minutes. The ultra-slim two-hand watch was produced in three sizes—37 mm, 39 mm, and 40 mm.

In 2020, the brand unveiled the Saxonia Thin Black Gold Flux, a captivating limited edition of just 50 pieces. Measuring 40 mm in diameter and housed in white gold, this ultra-thin timepiece offers remarkable comfort and understated elegance on the wrist. Its dial, crafted from aventurine glass shimmers with countless metallic inclusions that create a distinctive, starry sparkle. Invented by Venetian glassmakers in the 17th century, aventurine glass is, in fact, glass rather than a mineral stone, despite the shared name. According to Lange, the material is “cast” directly onto a solid-silver dial disc while molten, then allowed to cool and harden. Referred to by the manufacture as “gold flux,” the luminous surface owes its cosmic sparkle to copper and other metallic elements, a technique perfected by Murano artisans. Twelve solid-gold hour markers are delicately applied to complete the celestial dial.

At just 6.2 mm thick, the Saxonia Thin owes its svelte profile to the manually wound caliber L093.1, which itself measures a mere 2.9 mm in height. Despite its compactness, the movement delivers a 72-hour power reserve and features Lange’s signature decorative flourishes, including a hand-engraved balance cock and Glashütte ribbing across the three-quarter plate. The present Black Gold Flux Saxonia Thin, number 38 out of 50, shimmers with quiet refinement. It is preserved in excellent, fully stickered condition and offered complete with its full suite of accessories.
