Emerging first in 1917, Louis Cartier was inspired by French industrialist and automobile industry pioneer Louis Renault’s ingenious feat of engineering, and designed a timepiece to reflect the world’s first modern tank, the Renault FT, seen from above.
From this first Tank sprung a dizzying array of designs that captured the minds of collectors and connoisseurs over the decades. Although familiar to Cartier enthusiasts today as part of the Tank family, the Tank Française is a relatively new addition to the Maison's lineup.
First introduced in 1996, the Cartier Tank Française features a curved square case and sports a decidedly more robust size compared to its predecessors. It is also technically the first Tank with an integrated bracelet that was designed specifically to complement the case, compared to earlier Tank bracelets.
We are pleased to offer the present Reference 1840 in beautiful, unpolished condition.
