Description

Height 23.5 cm, 9¼ in.

Collection of Mr. T. Peek (d. 2006), and thence by descent.

Ben Janssens Oriental Art, TEFAF, Maastricht, 2002, pp 2-3.

Bronze he featuring complex zoomorphic handles and spouts contrasting with relatively unadorned bodies appear to be typical of those produced in northern China around the sixth and fifth centuries BCE. Compare a closely related he of this style sold from the collection of Robert Ellsworth together with a brazier stand in our New York rooms, 19th March 2002, lot 45.
