The model is defined by Manna (2000) as a “globular vase” (vaso globulare), produced in different sizes (mod. 1036 M.1, mod. 1050 M.26, mod. 1151 M.44, mod. 1256 M.49, mod. 1175 M.76).
The decoration of this lot belongs to one of the most important families of Ponti designs, La Venatoria. Predominantly female figures, on horseback or on foot, are engaged in hunting, surrounded by wild animals, dogs, and trees. For this series too, Ponti conceived a monumental “program vase” (see Manna, 2000, pp. 143–144, figs. 69–70) illustrating all the stages of a fallow-deer hunt. Each episode of the hunt was then represented individually on different vases and plates.
