Description

James Thompson & Brother 'Final Reserve' Kentucky Straight Bourbon 45 Year Old 120 Proof 1970

Distilled at Yellowstone Distillery , Louisville in KY, distilled 12/1970, bottle date: 12/2017, batch #1, bottle #204 of 250, original presentation case includes a small piece of the barrel, 100ml sample and a Stolzle Brandy snifter, includes original shipping case

Includes a pamphlet that reads:

"An Afterthought...

...About 60 years ago, I first heard of a technique for smoothing out the bite in long-aged spirits. The idea was at least a hundred years old back then and probably a lot more.

Forty plus years in the barrel produces a strong tannin flavor.

Some people find this over-powering so you may want to experiment with this method for 'softening' the tannins.

A very small amount of sweet Sherry- Literally a drop or two- will smooth the harshness in a snifter of old Bourbon or old Cognac. Adding anything to bourbon makes it a liqueur, so be cautious.

We suggest you taste Final Reserve as is, right out of the barrel, then experiment, if you wish, by adding a drop or two of Sherry to your snifter. Cheers.
