Ross S. Sterling

Ross S. Sterling (1875-1949) was the Governor of Texas from 1931-33 and founder of Humble Oil and Refining Co. (acquired by Standard Oil of New Jersey, 1959, merged in 1973 with Exxon, now ExxonMobil). In 1924 he commissioned architect Alfred C. Finn to build a mansion at Morgan's Point near Houston, Texas. It became known as the First Texas White House because it was based on the south façade of the building in Washington, D.C.
