From the wardrobe of Mona von Bismarck, she is considered to be one of the best dressed women in the world. Von Bismarck was an American socialite who married five times. Distraught at the announcement of the closure of the Balenciaga house in 1968 and the prospect of her favourite couturier no longer dressing her, she famously locked herself in her New York mansion and cried for several days. Von Bismarck died in 1983 at the age of 86. She was buried in a Givenchy gown and rests with her third and fourth husbands.
