Description

Old Overholt 100 Proof

Distilled in Spring 1951, bottled in Fall 1962, ullage: very top shoulder

Old Overholt is one of the oldest continuing names in American whiskey, having originated in the 1870s. For nearly 100 years it was distilled at a sprawling facility in rural western Pennsylvania called Broad Ford. That distillery shut down in 1951, the same year this whiskey was distilled – though by then Old Overholt was also being made at a nearby distillery called Large, and all production later moved to Kentucky, where it is still made today. That makes this bottle, released in 1962, an intriguing mystery – where was it distilled? – and a critical link in the often-murky history of Pennsylvania whiskey making.
