L.J. Pristo, Martelé, Gorham’s Nouveau Art Silver, 2002, p. 259, 290-91

The kettle of this set was made in 1897 as part of a six-piece set. The remaining five pieces were made in 1902 to match the earlier kettle, which was sent to Gorham to serve as a model; the costing slips specify "sterling - Martelé effect." Five different chasers worked on the five pieces, suggesting a rush order but suited to the pattern of differing flowers on each piece; well-known silversmith Clemens Friedell worked on the sugar bowl.
