Descended in the family of Judge John Chandler of Worcester, Massachusetts. According to family tradition, this needlework was embroidered by Lucretia Chandler, born 1728, or by her daughter, Lucretia Chandler, born 1762. The needlework dates circa 1765-1780 and was set in its present frame during the last quarter of the eighteenth century. The frame is of American manufacture and bears the rare label of Joseph Stokes located on Milk Street in Boston, Massachusetts. Joseph Stokes is listed in the Boston Business Directory in 1798.
