Stephen Shore achieved notoriety at a very young age, with three of his photographs in New York’s Museum of Modern Art collection by age 14. John Szarkowski, the revered director of photography at the Museum of Modern Art, would later praise Shore for his masterful works in color. Szarkowski asserted that “colour was integral to Shore’s desire to provide a faithful description of things. He constructed a spectrum of the age he lived in, occasionally turning it into the subject of the photograph itself” (Stephen Shore, 82).
