Possibly anonymous sale, London, Langford, 8–9 March 1776, lot 6 (as 'G. Van Eckhout. Card players. A lady engaged in the game seems to ask council of a cavalier who is near her. The other parts are in shadow, and give relief and lustre to the piece, which is highly finished');
