Amethyst "Flower"

Large crystals of amethyst quartz in a variety of colors radiate like flower petals from two center points in this piece, creating a specimen that is strongly reminiscent of a small bouquet of purple sunflowers. The quartz varies from colorless and transparent to white and opaque, and from faint violet to rich purple, with streaks of grey and black throughout adding additional visual interest. A most unusual habit of quartz that is known from only one small area of the world: the Iraí Municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul at the southern tip of Brazil, which shares its southwestern border with the country of Uruguay, itself famous for its amethyst finds.
