Freddie Mercury’s Japanese embroidered velvet bomber jacket

the highly decorative reversible Japanese bomber jacket, one side of soft black velvet machine-embroidered in ivory, gold and scarlet silk thread with a spectacular design, the back with a large image of a flying eagle below Mount Fuji surrounded by cherry blossoms and foliage beneath the word ‘Japan’, the front similarly embroidered with a pair of flying eagles, one on each side, the full length of each sleeve embellished with a three-clawed dragon surrounded by clouds, the jacket with cream knitted collar, cuffs and hem, two jetted pockets and zip-fastening front; the other side of quilted ivory satin, similarly embroidered on the back in ivory silks with a touch of scarlet and black, with a design of a flying three-clawed dragon amongst clouds and Mount Fuji beneath the word ‘Japan’, this side with black knitted collar, cuffs and hem and two jetted pockets - the jacket probably acquired by Freddie on Queen’s first trip to Japan during the Sheer Heart Attack tour, April-May 1975

Freddie was photographed [on Instagram] wearing the decorative Japanese velvet bomber jacket in this lot 1135 over the blue cotton vest with white trim and faded white lettering on the front: SOUTHSIDE SUPERSTARS in lot 165 [On Stage Auction] in c. 1975.
