2 volumes, folio. Titles printed in red and black, 12O signed 11O and 12P signed 16P; light spotting, a few leaves toned. Later calf, spine with gilt-lettered black and red morocco labels, all edges stained red; slight scratches to covers, red faded.


The first edition of Johnson's solo project to define every known word in the English language.


The first great endeavor of English lexicography, the standard authority on the English language for 150 years, and one of the greatest single achievements of scholarship of all time.
