Description

Council of Trent. Canones et decreta sacrosancti oecumenici et generalis Concilii Tridentini. Sub Paulo III Iulio III & Pio IIII pont. max. Cum indice dogmatum et reformationis. Venice: [Paolo Manuzio], 1568

Unlike the edition of the previous year, this is complete without the Orationes et mandata Concilii.

This copy is from the libraries of Raffaello di Giulio de’ Medici (d. 1620), appointed in 1569 canon of Florence cathedral, and of Pandolfo Ricasoli Baroni (1581-1657), appointed canon in 1620, resigned in disgrace in 1641. Ricasoli donated his library in 1635 to the Convento dei Carmelitani Scalzi di San Paolino di Firenze (42 books of his donation are listed by Maria Ciara Flori, “Eresia e scandalo nel ‘600: la biblioteca di Pandolfo Ricasoli” in Rinascimento 44 (2004), pp.379-408, the inkstamp illustrated p.401 Fig. 2).

8vo (144 x 96 mm). Italic type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: A-Z8 AA-DD8: 216 leaves (but 214, lacking final two blanks). (Closely trimmed at head, browning and spotting, early ink marginal markings.)

binding: Seventeenth-century vellum (150 x 104 mm). (Front hinge cracked, soiling.)
