The first Giunta edition and the first edition in octavo format.


The binding stamps are also found on bindings by the Second Binder of the monastery of San Salvatore, active in Bologna around 1525-1535 (A. Hobson and L. Quaquarelli, Legature bolognesi del Rinascimento, 1999, nos 33 and 35).


8vo (150 x 101 mm). Italic type, 30 lines plus headline. collation: a-h8: 64 leaves. Ownership entries to preliminaries, numerous early annotations in red and brown ink. (Some dampstaining and soiling.)


binding: Contemporary Italian blind-stamped calf (157 x 105 mm), probably Bolognese, central stamp of a vase of flames within a double frame of a repeated leafy stamp, stubs from two pairs of ties. (Binding refurbished with repairs at corners and ends of spine, a few wormholes, joints lightly cracked.)
