Laure Prouvost's 'The Chair' was directed and plays in the film Ma France à moi by Benoit Cohen, starring Fanny Ardant, Pierre Deladonchamps and Nawid Elham. Ma France à moi, co-produced by Marvelous Productions and Echo Studio and distributed by Pan Distribution, will be released in cinemas across France on 20 December.
Laure Prouvost's work is a three-legged chair, the fourth leg of which has been replaced by a mound of literary, multi-genre and multilingual works. It refers both to this image of breakage, of lack, of significant injury, but also to a certain humanized reparation, a compensation embodied in this case by culture.
For nearly 25 years, Laure Prouvost has been committed to deconstructing words and language, objects and how they are perceived, images and how they are represented, offering deliberately dysfunctional variants that challenge the systems of thought that govern our daily lives. Going against the grain of an efficient, effective and infallible framework, her artistic practice seeks to show the little things, the residues, the prosaic, the banalities and rough edges that remain in the background of a society that deliberately eliminates the useless and the unproductive. But it is precisely these irregularities and accidents that inform human relationships, according to the artist, and it is in this modest place that passions run high.

Depuis près de 25 ans, Laure Prouvost s’attache à déconstruire les mots et le langage, les objets et leur perception, les images et leur représentation pour en proposer des variantes volontairement dysfonctionnelles qui mettent à mal les système de pensées qui régissent nos vies quotidiennes. À contre-courant d’un cadre efficace, performant et infaillible, sa pratique artistique s’emploie à montrer les petites choses, les résidus, le prosaïque, les banalités et aspérités qui subsistent en arrière plan d’une société qui élimine délibérément l’inutile et l’improductif. Mais c’est précisément ces irrégularités et accidents qui informent, selon l’artiste, les rapports humains, et c’est à ce modeste endroit que les passions sont les plus grandes.
