A yokohagi nimai-do gusoku [armour] 

Edo period, 17th century


the black lacquered iron bowl of momonari-nari [peach-shaped] form, plain black lacquer mabisashi [peak], the fukigaeshi [turn backs] decorated in gold hiramaki-e with kuyo mon [Nine Luminaries crest], four-tiered black lacquer shikoro [neck guard] with sugake odoshi [spaced lacing] in dark blue braid, the gilt metal maedate [forecrest] pierced in the form of a further kuyo mon, the black lacquered ressei mempo [face mask with fierce expression] forged with deep wrinkles, flared nostrils and open mouth, detachable nose plate, broad yak bristle moustache, silver lacquer teeth, red lacquer interior, three-tiered yodaregake [throat protector], the do [cuirass] comprised of horizontal black lacquered plates and hinged in two pieces, joined to the muna-ita [upper section of the cuirass] with kebiki odoshi [close-spaced lacing] in dark blue braid, copper-gilt fukurin, six-tiered sode [shoulder guards], chainmail hyotan gote [sleeves with gourd-shaped embellishments], seven tassets of five-tiered kusazuri [skirt], kawara haidate [thigh guards], shino suneate [shin guards], with armour storage box
