A nerikawa gusoku [armour]
Edo period, 18th century
the sabiji-nuri [simulated russet iron] lacquered bowl with raised ridges, terminating in a five-stage copper tehen kanamono, sabiji-nuri mabisashi [peak], large black lacquered fukigaeshi with applied manji crests, two-tiered black lacquer shikoro [neck guard] with sugake odoshi [spaced lacing] in gree braid, the gold lacquered maedate [forecrest] in the form of a stylised crescent moon, the sabiji-nuri mempo [face mask] in ryubu style with gentle expression, unwrinkled face and mouth slightly ajar, detachable nose plate, yadome [standing flanges] to the cheeks, red lacquer interior, two-tiered yodaregake [throat protector] laced in matching braid, the do [cuirass] of hatomune [pigeon breast] form hinged in two pieces and comprised of black lacquered leather vertical plates, six-tiered sode [shoulder guards], chainmail kote [sleeves] with silk brocade lining, eight tassets of five-tiered kusazuri [skirt], all components laced in matching braid, black lacquer kawara haidate [thigh guards] with silk brocade lining, tsutsu form suneate [shin guards], with armour storage box
