The Property of a European Collector
A Kaga Myochin school zaboshi kabuto [helmet with seated rivets]
Momoyama period, late 16th century
the eight plate russet iron bowl with seventy-seven seated rivets, terminating in a four-stage copper, copper-gilt and shakudotehen kanamono of typical chrysanthemum form, black leather mabisashi [peak], the fukigaeshi [turnbacks] similarly decorated and applied with shakudo maru ni mokko mon [encircled quince flower crests], copper-gilt fukurin, four tiered black lacquer and leather itamono shikoro [neck guard with solid plates] with sugake odoshi [spaced lacing] in blue braid, gilt metal maedate [forecrest] of a later date in the form of a suken [straight sword] before a circle, this lot has an accompanying wood stand, but not the one illustrated in the photographs
The bowl to peak: 32 cm., 12½ in.
The shikoro to peak: 37 cm., 14½ in.
