Framed: 93 by 145cm., 36½ by 57in.
At the centre of Delanoy’s minutely observed still life is an illuminated Qur’an, on top of which have been placed a Persian Khula Khud helmet and an Ottoman silver-hilted Yataghan. On the left is a Persian Dhal shield decorated with hunting scenes and calligraphic inscriptions; a Persian tabarzin axe; and an Ottoman Miquelet rifle. Below the Qur’an are an Ottoman jade-hilted kinjal and an Ottoman brass divit, or pen box.
