Description

An Austro-Hungarian Monumental Silver Memorial Light, Bohm, 1844

of hexagonal baluster form, with alternating plain and chased foliate panels, suspended by foliate scrolls from three chains of square links and rosettes, matching hexagonal canopy, the body marked three times with maker and city

Height overall 90 in. (228.5 cm)

This style of mark indicates a city within the Austro-Hungarian empire, and the scale of the piece denotes a community of some wealth and consequence.  It is worth noting that the Great Synagogue of Bucharest (now Romania) was built in 1845, and the Tempel Synagogue in Lemberg (now Lviv, Ukraine) was built 1844-45, in a sophisticated domed Neoclassical style.
